Support Request: URL Lagging and Crashes Site Kiosk App

Description

I have a Android 55" Touchscreen, IIYAMA PROLITE TF5539AS-B1AG, and I have tried running site kiosk to lock the screen down to a URL for a way finding map. Site Kiosk will lock down the screen to the the URL but when navigating through the map there is a lag and then eventually Site Kiosk crashes.

When I navigate through the map on Chrome through the Android screen it works fine with no lagging. Do you know why this is happening and is there a way to fix this issue? The Map URL is below, please feel free to try it and see how it works for you.

Hello,

according to the product website of the manufacturer (https://iiyama.com/gl_en/products/prolite-tf5539as-b1ag/) the device comes with Android 11. This version of Android is not supported with SiteKiosk Classic for Android, Classic only supports Android up to version 10 and this will not change as it is a legacy product. Please use SiteKiosk Online (https://www.sitekiosk.com/eu/sitekiosk/#SiteKiosk%20Comparison) if your device runs Android 11.

I am new to this and wasn't aware that site kiosk online worked on Android.

Is there a manual of how I can set this up? Do you think this will change the out come and make the map work as it should with no crashing?

Hello,

you can find the documentation of SiteKiosk Online here https://sitekiosk.online/help/en/Installation.html and tutorial videos here https://www.sitekiosk.com/eu/tutorials/.

On our SiteKiosk test devices the page loads without problems.

We have now tried the online version of site kiosk and are getting the same issue with the URL lagging and then the app crashes. We have tried the URL on Opera and Chrome without using SiteKiosk online and they work fine. We have also tried the URL on Opera and Chroma and then used SiteKiosk online to lock the application down and the map again works fine with no issues.

Is there a way of us changing the default the browser that Site Kiosk uses to either Chrome or Opera? If not I was wondering if Site Kiosk has any other settings/options to enable us to not just lock the kiosk down to Chrome or Opera but also allowed us to lock the browser app down so the address bar is not there and people using the kiosk cant navigate away from the map we are displaying?

Hello,

On Windows, SiteKiosk Online gives you the option to switch to the Edge (WebView2) browser engine: https://sitekiosk.online/help/en/Browser.html

On Android, SiteKiosk always uses the Android System WebView to display websites.

Since the URL https://screens.ui.qa1.livingmap.com/?screen_id=x1920w works correctly on our Android 11 test system with SiteKiosk Online (using Android System WebView 139), the issue on your device is most likely due to an outdated System WebView component.

The Android System WebView is part of the operating system installed by the device manufacturer. This means that the available WebView version is managed at the Android system level and not by SiteKiosk. Responsibility for updates lies with the device manufacturer.
On most standard devices, you can usually update the Android System WebView via the Google Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview&hl=en-US

SiteKiosk cannot affect external applications, such as third party browsers. This means it has no ability to modify or lock the address bar, nor can it restrict URL access within browsers like Chrome or Opera. SiteKiosk’s configuration and security settings only apply within the SiteKiosk environment itself, not to independent applications installed on the device.

Regard,
Michael Olbrich
